Comment by Danielle Jamison

Her response to this statement by Lakita McGee:

Instead of fighting with our own community we need to stand together against people who are against us.

Danielle Jamison:

Easier said that done. And the problem with that is because everyone wants to be a leader, andnot okay with being a part of something that is already making a difference. There are quite a few organizations and groups in the SCD community, but with all these egos (because we African- Americans have some huge egos), people don't take the time to understand that it's okay to be just a "member" of one of those organizations. Or there may be 2 or 3 people with the same agenda, but instead of joining forces to work together, most want to stay separated because they want to be known, even if what they're doing doesn't have a real impact on the community. That's the biggest challenge we have, and it's very unfortunate because, if we all could work together, we would really get more done. I say this because I see it, being a member of one the organizations in our community, gives me an inside track to what's happening, and it saddens me.Easier said that done.
